Imo State Governor, Rochas Okorocha, has revealed that the actions of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) governorship aspirant, Senator Ifeanyi Araraume, gave him victory in the April 11  election in the state.

Giving Ararume a commendation, Okorocha said that Araraume’s action decisively helped to swing electoral fortunes to his (Okorocha) side.

Speaking at two different occasions in Owerri, Okorocha commended Arararume for his decision to make his supporters throw their weight behind him (Okorocha) in the Imo governorship election without asking for a kobo, except for the protection of the interest of the state and the people.

Okorocha told a meeting of the All Progressives Congress (APC) top shots at the Government House, Owerri, that Araraume has distinguished himself as a great man of integrity who has the interest of Imo State at heart.

It will be recalled that on April 9 two days to the governorship elections, Araraume and his supporters declared support for Okorocha at his (Araraume’s) campaign office on Onitsha road where he made it clear that his support for Okorocha had no conditions attached.

Political observers believe that Araraume’s support for Okorocha was significantly influential in the victory of APC in the six local governments of Okigwe zone, where Araraume comes from, and even in some other parts of the state where some key leaders in his campaign organisation come from. Obviously elated by the outcome of the April 11 governorship election which put APC in the lead with over 79,000 votes, Okorocha declared at the: “I want to tell you that I have seen a true man of integrity. A true great son of Imo State who came out to support me and the APC in the governorship elections without asking for a kobo.

“All he asked for is that the interest of his supporters and Imo people be protected. That man is Sen. Araraume.”

He acknowledged that Araraume’s support was a major deciding factor in his favour at the elections.

Also at a church service at the Government House Chapel, Owerri; Okorocha was full of praises for Araraume.

He told the congregation that PDP leaders had been running around to see how they will either cancel April 11 election outright or erase his leadership in the polls.
