The Governorship candidate of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Saturday election, Mr. Odey Ochicha, has promised to eliminate multiple taxes as well as stop what it called “non-statutory” taxes if voted into power.

Ochicha made the promise at a town hall meeting in Calabar on Thursday where he again explained his party’s programme for the people. He decried a situation where various agencies claim to be collecting taxes for the government, saying that such a situation would not take place if he is elected and APC is given the opportunity to govern the state.

“We are not unaware of the tax burden on residents of the state, especially those in the urban centres.  We will harmonize taxes and ensure that only one agency is mandated to collect taxes for the government.  We will reduce the amount paid as taxes in order to encourage the private sector and do away with non-statutory taxes in our administration,” Ochicha said.

He said his government would engage the private sector in a discussion so as to understand their situation, which he said, would inform his government’s tax regime

He appealed to the people to vote for the APC in order to have reprieve from tax burden, which according to him, has weighed down the residents of the state.
