A MEMBER of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Delta State,  Ameachi Ogbonna, has said  the rational of members of the party challenging the victory of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) at the April 11 governorship poll, saying the party did not field any candidate for the 2015 general elections in the state.

Ogbonna, who spoke to Daily Independent  in Warri, said a court had declared that the congress that brought the incumbent state executives of the party to power was illegal and therefore any candidate brought forward under the illegal leadership of the party to contest for the 2015 polls was also illegal.

An Asaba High Court had penultimate week nullified the APC executive in Delta State warning them to stop parading themselves as the executive of the party as they did not meet the party’s constitutional requirement in conducting the congress that got them into position.

“The Pastor Joe Erhue-led executives came through the back door and therefore everything done by them are also illegal, null and void and of not effect whatsoever. If they had fielded any candidate, whether they succeed or failed amount to the same illegality. The party could not have fielded any candidate since there was no legitimate executive in place in the state. In other words, the system that brought about the congress through which they emerged was wrong and so everything about the party from then to the end of the 2015 election is wrong”.

An APC Chieftain in the state, Chief Adolor Okotie-Eboh, had dragged the party executive and the National executive to court challenging the congress and it’s the processes leading to the emergence of the current executive.

Ameachi averred that with the judgment all candidates for the 2015 polls are illegal and cannot be said to be APC candidates. The national executive and INEC was part of those taken to court and the Judgment also wraps them along and they are bound to obey the court ruling, saying that as progressives they do not compromise the rule of law.

He said the APC did not participate in the 2015 polls because the state congress that brought the executive into office came in through back door and the court has declared it illegal, saying that in Delta State any party that contested the 2015 outside the APC are the only once to be accorded that recognition. The APC did not contest in Delta.
