Former Chairman of the Nigerian Bar Association (NBA), Ikeja branch, Monday Ubani, on Thursday said the All Progressives Congress (APC) may have to convene another national conference that would genuinely address the issue of restructuring the country when it becomes the ruling party on May 29, 2015.

Speaking in an exclusive interview with Daily Independent where he outlined his agenda for the incoming government, Ubani said President Goodluck Jonathan’s motive for convening the 2014 National Conference was not genuine, adding that the President only took the decision when it became “politically expedient for him to do so” to get the votes of the South-West and other regions.

He added that President Jonathan had the opportunity to implement the executive aspect of the conference report, but ignored it and decided to use the conference as a campaign strategy, to be implemented if voted into office for another term.

“I am not a member of the APC and I am not speaking for them. I don’t think the APC was saying that they don’t like national conference or they are not interested in the restructuring of Nigeria. For Nigeria to attain its goals in the comity of nations and move forward, it has to be restructured. I don’t see the APC not talking about this. In fact, it is even in their manifesto. But I believe the APC is not interested in a politically-induced conference that is not done with good intentions,” he stated.
