The governorship candidate of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Abubakar Sani Bello, has won in 17 out of the 18 local government councils in Niger State, while the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) won in one local government council.

The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) returning officer for the governorship election, Professor Abdulganiyu Ambali, who announced the results at the INEC state headquarters, on David Mark Road, Minna, on Sunday, said the APC polled a total of 443,283 votes against the PDP candidate, Umar Nasko, who got 171,986 votes.

Although the exercise had flaws in some wards, leading to the cancellation of some results, Ambali said results in seven local government councils were still being awaited, at the time of filing this report.

He also explained that some results were rejected in some polling units due to electoral offences, including tampering with ballot boxes and threats to INEC presiding officers.
