Following Sunday’s murder of three supporters of the Accord Party (AP) at a rally in Odinjo area of Ibadan in Ibadan South-East Local Government Area of Oyo State, the Ibadan elders’ council of the party has threatened reprisal should the senseless killing of its members continue.

The elders, in a release jointly signed by its chairman, Tunji Adeoye, and scribe, Toyose Oladejo, described the act as barbaric and a calculated attempt to set the state on fire.

It would be recalled that three members of the party were gruesomely murdered, with scores sustaining varying degrees of injuries during an attack on its members by hired political thugs alleged to be sponsored by the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) in the state last Sunday in Ibadan.

But the APC had, through its state chairman, Akin Oke, distanced itself from the incident, asking the state police command to do a thorough job in bringing those behind the dastardly act to book, just as Oke condemned AP for rushing to conclusion ahead of police investigation.

AP elders regretted that, “APC had shown high degree of intolerance in spite of its glaring failures in government in the last four years in the state.”

It alleged that it was a grand design of the party to use men of the state drivers union to intimidate and harass the opposition and innocent voters.

The party leaders declared that it was because of this that the APC was campaigning against the deployment of soldiers to provide security in voting centres.

The Accord elders insisted that no party has monopoly of violence, adding that members of the party might be forced to engage in self-help if the attack continues.

They, however, lauded the state Police Commissioner, Mohammed Katsina, and the officers in charge of the State Anti Robbery Squad (SARS) and Skynet for taking prompt action and ensuring the arrest of the suspected thugs.
