The Ansar-ud-deen Society (ADS) of Nigeria has called for an investigation into the stampede during the recently concluded hajj rites in Saudi Arabia that led to the death of over 66 Nigerians and many others still missing.

The ADS which made the call through its National Executive Committee urged the Federal Government to call on the Saudi Arabia Authorities to thoroughly investigate the tragedies.

The ADS position was contained in a statement signed by its Publicity Secretary, Muibideen Adebanjo and made available to journalists in Ibadan on Wednesday. The group said that such investigation, if properly and thoroughly conducted would help in the prevention of future occurrences.

It would be recalled that the twin tragedy of crane-fall and stampede, which occurred during the 2015 hajj rites in Saudi Arabia, had left several pilgrims dead, and hundreds others still missing.

The society extended its condolences to the families of those who lost their lives in the twin incidences and prayed that God forgive their sins and reward them with eternal rest. It also prayed that God grant those hospitalised quick recovery and those missing safe re-union with their families.

The statement said that the ADS President, Lateef Okunnu, SAN had directed that a special prayer should be held nationwide for the victims on Sunday, October 4 and urged members to attend enmasse.
