Anambra, Delta Police Commands Kill Two Suspects, Recover Weapons

The Special Anti-Robbery (SARS) of the Anambra State Police Command have gunned down a five-member robbery gang in Asaba, Delta State.

The gang, which was accused of several armed robbery and car snatching incidents, were gunned down along Nnebisi Road in Asaba following a shootout with the police.

Mr. Ali Okechukwu, Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO) of the Anambra State Command, who briefed reporters at the SARS headquarters in Awkuzu, Oyi Local Council Area, said that the Delta State Police Command arrested and handed over one of the suspects popularly called Obisma to Anambra State SARS.

According to Okechukwu, the kingpin who he described as the most wanted robber on interrogation, confessed to series of armed robbery and car snatching activities within and outside the state.

He added that police operatives from the Anambra State command went to Asaba to arrest his accomplices when the gang engaged them in a shootout.

“When the operatives arrived their hide-out at Asaba, they were attacked by the gang members during which one of them identified as Chuma Anyichie and unidentified female were arrested with severe bullet injuries but they died few minutes later at the scene.”

Okechukwu said that three vehicles and several rounds of ammunitions including AK47 riffle and magazines, 24 rounds of live ammunition, two locally made guns, five cartridges and charms were recovered from the gang.

He said the kingpin and one of the operatives who sustained bullet injuries during the operations are receiving treatment in a hospital and that efforts were on to arrest other fleeing members of the gang.

He assured residents of the commitment of the police to rid the state of criminality and called for more collaboration with the police by providing useful and timely information on any security matter.
