Emmanuel Amuneke, the coach of Nigeria’s U-20 side, on Sunday led a team of 25 players to Calabar, venue of their return leg tie against Burundi in the race to the 2017 Africa U-20 championship.
The coach dropped six players from the 31 in camp and added seven others to the squad that defeated Burundi 1-0 in Bujumbura three weeks ago.
Funsho Bamgboye, a surprise omission from the team that played in the first leg tie, alongside goalkepper Yunusa Abdullahi, Tobechukwu Ibe, Johnson Umah, Najeeb Hamza, Finnian Okoroji and Mustapha Abdullahi were the players added to the team.
Amuneke reportedly wanted to travel with the entire 31 players but met a brick wall when he was told that the Nigeria Football Federation (NFF) only has provision and funds to cater for 25 players due to their financial constrain.
The Flying Eagles will have their first training session at the UJ Eusene Stadium today ahead of the game on Sunday with their opponents expected in the country on Friday evening.
