Lagos – Governor Ibikunle Amosun of Ogun State has commended the Vice-Chancellor, Olabisi Onabanjo University (OOU), Ago-Iwoye, Professor Saburi Adejimi Adesanya, for emerging as the Best State University in Nigeria for the year 2016.

The award was presented to the University by the Institute for Governance Research, Leadership and Technology at an event that took place on October 28, 2016 in Abuja.

The Governor who applauded the university on Monday in Abeokuta, during the 2017 Budget Treasury Board Meeting, noted that Ogun State has an enviable record of educational achievements over several decades, recording a number of ‘firsts’ and producing pioneering professionals across many sectors and disciplines.

He said in order to protect this proud legacy and for the State to continue to advance in this regard, the government has invested heavily in the rebuilding of infrastructure, training and motivation of personnel and has encouraged pupils to excel.

He emphasised that a critical means of encouraging pupils has been to ensure that no child is left behind on account of his/her economic background.

OOU was adjudged the best based on its outstanding performance in the areas of Excellent in University infrastructure development and management; Expertise in University academic, non-academic staff recruitment pattern; Competent in student admission administration, training and development; Proficiency in University asset protection and security staff management; Campus general performance; operational excellence and management Compliance with professional codes; ethical standards and strategy Compliance with government regulatory laws and guidelines.

While receiving the award on behalf of the University, Professor Adesanya thanked the Institute for exhibiting due diligence and high ethical standard in arriving at the choice of OOU as the best.

The Vice Chancellor had reminded the audience that in the year 2014, the National Universities Commission (NUC) ranked the University as the Best State University in Nigeria, thus “I was not surprised when OOU was chosen this year for the premier award by your organization”.

He affirmed that the University had witnessed great transformation in the areas of physical infrastructure and academic development; hence the University deserved the award.
