Peace Restoration Movement has called on President Muhammadu Buhari not to appoint those they described as “betrayers” into the amnesty programme, pleading that only transparent and credible person be given such appointment.

The group also urged Mr. President to make a wide consultation with former militant generals in the region so as not make similar mistakes made by the immediate past administration of former President Goodluck Jonathan.

The group made this call in Warri South Local Government Area of Delta State while applauding Commander Bibi Oduku’s contribution towards President Buhari’s victory in the last presidential election.

The group said that Commander Bibi Oduku’s role during presidential election in the area of security despite threats and intimidation from opposition was worthy of note, saying that “the leadership of Commander Bibi Oduku was the only gateway to relative peace in the Niger-Delta region.” In a statement issued by the group, they said the appeal was coming from ex-militant generals in all the ethnic nationalities in both the riverine area and in the land of the Niger-Delta region, noting that the commitment of Commander Bibi Oduku before, during and after the presidential election has proved him as the most qualified person to head the region in the area of security.

The statement reads in part: “We ex-militant generals from all the ethnic nationalities of the Niger-Delta region has watched with keen interest over who’s leadership will usher in relative peace and it was resolved that no other person than Commander Bibi Oduku stands the on chance to bring peace to the area.

“We cannot underestimate Commander Oduku’s vigorous campaign across the six states of the Niger-Delta region in ensuring that President Muhammadu Buhari carried the day and this he was doing much encouragement he was giving to all ex-militants general in the region not to relent in their pursuit to actualise Buhari’s victory at the poll.

“It is our confidence that if Mr. President would leave the security and the amnesty programme in the region under the careful watch of Commander Bibi Oduku, there is no doubt that the administration of Buhari will witness relative peace as youth restiveness would become a thing of the past.”
