Amid rolling Blackouts, Power Minister Says FG Has Done Much

Minister of Power, Prof. Chinedu Nebo, has said that President Goodluck Jonathan fulfilled his promises on power, except for the problem of gas that has been a hindrance to the realisation of steady electricity in the country.

Nebo on Wednesday stated that the situation in the power sector could get better if the incoming government tackles the issues of pipeline vandalism and adopts renewable energy to generate more power.

There has been a sharp drop in power generation in the last few months, with long spells of blackouts across the country.

The situation was made worse with the strike by oil workers and importers of petroleum products effectively crippling gas supply to power generation plants.

Channels Television’s correspondent, Gloria Ume-Ezeoke reports that government authorities have blamed Nigeria’s electricity power crisis that had further deteriorated in recent times on sabotage and insufficient gas to run the country’s power plants.

Despite the worsening situation, Nebo claims government has achieved a lot in the sector but for a few lapses.
