Amao, Olatunji Win N170,000, N90,000, Squash Largesse

The duo of Wale Amao and Yemisi Olatunji won the 3rd Lagos State Squash Association (LSSA) closed tournament and in the process won N170,000 ($850) and N90,000 ($450) respectively.
Amao defeated Lanre Abudulraman, 11-4, 11-4, 11-6, while Olatunji dismissed Sunday Veronica, 14-12, 11-4, 11-1 to win the men and women categories respectively.
The win ensured that Olatunji, who retained her top ranking as Lagos’ number one female squash player, also pocketed N90,000 ($450), while Amao, winner of the men’s category went home with 850 dollars.
The tournament, which was held at the Teslim Balogun Stadium Lagos had total prize money of 4,000 dollars which was shared among the competitors.
Amao expressed gratitude to the organisers and pledged to give his best in developing potential grassroots talents as a way of giving back to the society.
Olatunji, the winner of the female category said that the competition had proven to the world that the country’s local coaches were credible enough to handle the classic tournaments.
Amao, the Lagos number two male player is ranked 422 in the world, while Olatunji, the Lagos number one female player is ranked 199 in the world.
