The All Progressives Congress (APC) Governor of Rivers State, Rotimi Amaechi, and his aides have been accused of looting the state treasury and vandalising property worth billions of Naira.

The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), which made the allegation, also accused the governor of illegally employing 500 people into the state Polytechnic, Bori, as the government winds up on May 29, 2015.

Rivers State PDP Chairman, Felix Obuah, made the accusation in a statement  signed by his media aide, Jerry Needam.

He further alleged that government property were being sold to close friends, political allies and family members of Amaechi.

His words: “PDP describes as frightening illegal employment in Rivers State Polytechnic, Bori, where 500 people have been secretly employed without due process.

“Information available to us reveal that some of the government property being stolen and vandalised are mainly the unregistered brand new cars assigned to different departments of government.

“Some equipment for the monorail, government farms, schools, hospitals, government-owned media houses, and others have also been stolen and vandalised.”

The PDP chieftain however reminded the state indigenes that government was a continuum and “what is being taken away is the wealth of the state.”

The state government is yet to respond to the allegations.
