How often is a living figure seen through any work of art? That is exactly the case of former Rivers Sate Governor, Rotimi Chibuike Amaech, who has been projected as the true model of an ideal politician in a book titled: ‘Rotimi Amaech and the 7 O’clock News’.

The 36-page book presented to the governor on his birthday on May 27, 2015, is a fictitious projection of the political beginning and successful career of the former Rivers governor, chronicling his upbringing and how it will affect the younger generation, especially the children.

The main idea of the book is to teach school children in Rivers State and Nigeria at large, while not intending to drag them into politics of violence, and that it is not a do or die game, not about bloodshed , ballot box snatching.

The book aims to reach out to the young ones and teach them politics that finds solution to the common good of the citizens.

book-artAuthor, Brain Onu, said the inspiration behind the book is the ex-governor’s love for the political future of Nigeria, his love for child education and his belief that by imbibing the principles of crises-free political campaigns, children’s mindset would be tailored towards peaceful electioneering as against what we have today.

He said: “If we can change the minds of the children, we have changed the future, if we succeed in changing the future, we have changed the nation; it’s God’s earnest desire for me to write ’Rotimi Amaechi and the seven o’clock News’.

According to Brain, sponsor of the book Aso Wena, former Rivers State Liaison Officer in Lagos, got involved in the project after seeing the relevance the book will play in the political reorientation of young Nigerian school children towards a better political future for the country. The summary of the book is a fictitious exposition of Amechi’s early  life, political aspiration with curiosity over who are politicians and how politics should be practised in the interest of the masses.

That got him into seeking for the full meaning of politics from his father. Amaechi, according to the book, later became his class prefect after learning that he can get supporters from his class through realistic promises of giving them sweets and chocolates.

The book clearly defines the true qualities of good and bad politicians, revealing that while the former delivers on his campaign promises, the latter concerns himself with amassing wealth and having no development to show during his tenure.

It would be recalled that Amaechi fought for his misplaced mandate and became governor afterwards, and as a model of socio-economic and political change, his projection is that change should not be temporary but should be a permanent thing.

Therefore, his love for children means letting the book to be distributed all over the country for the sake of saving the country’s political future.

As governor of Rivers State, the state won the world book city award in 2014, which is a UNESCO project.
