The Wife of Nasarawa State Governor, Hajiya Salamatu Al-Makura has donated N350, 000 worth household items and foodstuff to 350 widows from across the three senatorial zones of the state.

The governor’s wife who spoke with Daily Independent on the gesture said that 100 widows from the western and northern part of the state benefitted, while 150 others from the south also benefitted.

According to her, “The gesture is to assist them to celebrate both Christmas and the New Year with ease and calm.”

Mrs. Al-makura also pledged to do everything humanly possible to assist the less privileged in the society to improve their standard of living through her pet project “Mother and Child Care Foundation ((McCEF)”.

She explained that the gesture will cushion the hardship that they may face during these festivals because of absent of their husbands.

She, however, sympathised with the widows over their plight, and encouraged them to remain steadfast as God will surely sustain them.

The governor’s wife advised them to make education of the children a topmost priority, despite their current challenges, adding, “I enjoined the widows to ensure proper upbringing of their children, so that when they grow up they would become responsible leaders.”

She appealed to Christians to use the period of Christmas to seek God’s intervention in the socio-economic crisis facing the country, and urged Nigerians to set aside some time to reflect on the state of the nation and pray for a way out of the prevailing insurgency and economic problems.
