Lagos – Ahead of the 2016 Federation Cup round of 32 which begins today, holders, Akwa United of Uyo, have said they will defend the trophy for a back-to-back record as they lock horns with Kwara United.
In the same vein, Enugu Rangers and Nasarawa United, both semi finalists in the last edition, are spitting fire that they will not take their matches with kid’s glove.
Daboere Dokubo, the head coach of the Uyo side, believed his team would be the cynosure of all eyes in the tournament.
“We know that Akwa United as champions are the marked team. We know too we must be at our very best at all time in order to maintain the status quo.
Akwa United were drawn bye in the preliminary round, while the Afonja Warriors beat Galadima Best FC 7-0.
Christian Chukwu, the Technical Consultant Rangers has reiterated the Federation Cup was one of the club’s major targets this season as they are set to achieve it.
Commenting on the game against ABS of Ilorin Chukwu said, “The Federation Cup cannot elude Rangers this year. It one of the targets we the club is set for this season and ABS can’t stop us.”
Kabir Dogo has said Nasarawa United will not underrate any their opponent, Go Round FC of Port Harcourt as his side will approach the game as a Cup final.
In his words, “There is no small team in the Federation Cup as far as we are concerned and we will not treat Go Round FC as one. They are Rivers state champions and must have reached this stage of the competition on merit.
“We are not going to underrate the side but treat them as equals despite the fact that the side play in the lower division,” Dogo warned.
