The people of Akwa Ibom State residing in Lagos under the aegis of Akwa Ibom State Community (AKISCOM) have called on the state Governor-elect, Deacon Emmanuel Udom, to sustain the developmental strides already recorded in the state.

AKISCOM President, Chief Elijah Ifot, made the call during a meeting of Akwa Ibom indigenes in Lagos held at Surulere.

According to him, officials of the community who monitored the governorship election observed that contrary to media reports, the election was peaceful, free and fair where Udom won convincingly against his opponents.

He recalled that since 2011, the stand of AKISCOM, Lagos, was for power to shift to Eket Senatorial District for equity and fair play though at the time they took this position, they did not have anybody in mind.

“The wish and expectation of AKISCOM have come to pass with the election of Udom.

“With this development, AKISCOM as a body affirmed that the election in the state was peaceful and asked other contestants that are aggrieved on the outcome to sheath their sword and join hands with the governor-elect to develop the state,” he said.

Ifot explained that youth empowerment, functional education, universal health care, poverty alleviation, sustainable agricultural development, industrialisation should be the focal points of the uncommon transformation in the state, which the Godswill Akpabio, the out-going Governor, concentrated upon.

In her remarks, Chairlady of the community in Ojo Local Government Area of Lagos State, Mrs. Mfon Ibanga, speaking on behalf of other chairmen and charladies implored the incoming leadership in Akwa Ibom State not to disappoint the people of the state and those in the Diaspora.

While noting the contribution of AKISCOM, Lagos, to the emergence of Udom as the new Governor of the state, she advised AKISCOM leadership to make their impact felt by the incoming administration through constructive engagement with them.
