Lagos – The Rio Olympic Games are gradually drawing to a close with Nigeria yet to make any podium appearance.

Efe Ajagba, after his second round heroic performance, where he knocked out Trinidad and Tobago’s Nigel Paul 164, lost his quarter-final fight in a unanimous decision to Kazakhstan’s Ivan Dychko.

His elimination has dealt another blow to Nigeria’s quest to bury the ghost of London Olympics, where Nigeria failed to win a single medal and also added to the growing disappointments facing Team Nigeria at the Games.

The hope of winning any medal now lies on the U-23 team as blessing Okagbare also crashed out of the 200m event early Wednesday.

The three judges gave the first two rounds to Dychko. Ajagba came out forcefully in the third round realising that he needed to knockout his opponent to get any chance of progressing. Ajagba came out strong throwing jabs to win the third round, but Ivan Dychko was adjudged the winner by unanimous decision.
