The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) governoship candidate in the 2012 Edo State election, Retired Major General Charles Airhiavbere, on Sunday  defected to the All Progressives Congress  (APC) with thousands of his supporters in Benin City.

Airhiavbere, who was the National Co-ordinator, Goodluck2Goodluck campaign organization, while announcing his defection at a press conference, said his decision to dump the PDP was informed by the need to join “team of change that has come to the nation in the March 28, 2015 presidential election”.

According to him, “Politicians who mean well for Edo State will ground their arms of hate and join the change train of the APC government ably led by His Excellency, Adams Oshiomhole.

“I know for sure that with the APC at the National and State levels, there will be rapid development and all campaign promises will be delivered to our dear state that is yearning for rapid development”

He said his foremost concern for peace in the state is to ensure that the APC wins majority number of seats at the April 11 state assembly election which he said was paramount to sustainable development in the state.

While reacting to allegation that he left the PDP because his campaign platform, (Goodluck2Goodluck Organisation) was denied access to funds from President Goodluck Campaign Organisation, the retired general said it was not true, adding that his campaign for Jonathan was funded through personal effort.

“I want to state that everything about my campaign in 2012, PDP didn’t give me any money. My performance was purely my own efforts and those that supported me. Even my campaign for Jonathan was also through personal effort. I didn’t get any reward or appointments like ministerial or head of board.

“My drive is to bring development to Edo State and that has been my passion, money has never motivated me, even the last road show was a personal contribution. There was no single PDP candidate that came for the road show. I want to say that Goodluck is still our president and I stood by him till the end.

“In the April 11 election, we will deliver Edo state to APC so that the Comrade Governor will enjoy majority in the assembly for peace” he promised.
