Makurdi – Fulani herdsmen again went on a shooting spree in nine communities in Logo Local Government Area (LGA) of Benue State on Monday night and Tuesday morning and killing four persons in the process.

The Benue State Command of the Nigeria Police, which confirmed the attacks, however, said only two persons were killed.

The herdsmen had laid siege on communities in Anyiin among the Agbenge, Kwagh Agule, Tyoban, Tse Yough and Gemana for the better part of Monday night only to resume attacks on communities in Turan, Tombo, Ukemberagya and Tswarev councils in Gaambe-tiev on Tuesday morning.

Independent learnt that residents of Anyiin, home of immediate past governor of the state, Gabriel Suswam, woke up on Monday night at about 9:10pm to sporadic shooting by Fulani militants in Akombo, a suburb of Anyiin.

The invaders who had entered the town through the abandoned mobile police barracks in the area to launch the attack forced residents of Agbenge, Kwagh Agule, Tyoban, Tse Yough and Gemana communities to flee their homes into the bush for safety.

Joseph Anawa, a resident, told Independent that the area under attack was one of the settlements harbouring Internally Displaced Persons (IDPs) that had fled their home from earlier Fulani attacks.

Although it was reported that two corpses were recovered from Akombo village in the sustained attack on communities in Logo, many were wounded from the attacks even as scores were still missing.

Anawa identified the two persons that were killed by the herdsmen as residents who were on the way to the farm, Sam Wayo, a school supervisor with Logo LGEA, and Msugh Lim, his relation.

“Farmers have once again deserted their homes as a result of the continued Fulani invasion of their homes thereby abandoning farming activities. In all these attacks, no single arrest has been made by security operatives stationed in the area,” he said.

Moses Yamu, Police Public Relations Officer in the state, confirmed the attack but said only two people lost their lives in the incident.
