The Athletics Federation of Nigeria (AFN) has commended national high jump record-holder, Doreen Amata, for her performance at the IAAF World Challenge meeting in Dakar, Senegal over the weekend.

Amata’s 1.94m leap was her best in four years. In the last few years she has been plagued with injuries.

The AFN President, Solomon Ogba, says Amata would do better this season.

“I am very happy with her performance. She is in good shape and form at the right time, this is a World Championship year, we also have the All Africa Games, so I am highly excited that one our athletes is doing very well.’’

Ogba said that by July when most Nigerian athletes would be home for the Warri Relay and CAA Super Grand Prix and AFN/CRS All Nigeria Athletics Championships, Amata would do better.
