The African Bar Association (AFBA) on Monday called on the Federal Government, Delta State Government, the Police and other security agencies to investigate the gruesome murder of Chairman of Nigeria Bar Association (NBA), Ughelli branch, Austin Ichege.

The body also charged the law enforcement agencies to ensure that they leave  no stone unturned in their bid to fish out the culprits and those behind such dastard act.

In a press statement issued in Benin City, President of AFBA, Hannibal Uwaifo described the murder of Ichege as too hard to comprehend by any person with good conscience.

He said the murder of Ichege in front of his residence in Ughelli is a harrowing experience, which must be unravelled by the law enforcement agencies.

He said: “We in AFBA are appalled and disturbed by this sad and bizarre murder of Mr. Ichege who was a legal practitioner of note and sound disposition.

“Therefore, the perpetrators of this criminal murder must be fished out to face the full weight of the law as nothing should be left to chance to ensure the security of law abiding citizens.”

While commiserating with the family of the slain legal practitioner, the President of AFBA enjoined the citizens to be vigilant and cooperate with the security agencies to check the criminal activities of hoodlums in the society.

He said that “all hands must be on deck in order to frustrate the criminal activities of hoodlums in the society to make it a safe place for legitimate business to thrive,” promising that AFBA would partner all relevant agencies in their investigation to get to the root of the murder.
