Adesina   Nigeria’s Minister of Agriculture and Rural Development (FMARD), Dr. Akinwumi Adesina, described as the ‘poster boy’ of President Goodluck Jonathan’s cabinet, has a mien that reverberates affluence. By all standards, Adesina could be described as one of Nigeria’s privileged individuals but life did not start for him so, as he has personally revealed that he was born poor.

Speaking in London on Tuesday at the 2015 British Council for Africa annual debate holding at the Law Society, the minister said, “I grew up poor and was one of lucky few to acquire education.” Adesina who twitted on his background from the event titled, “The Power to Connect: Investing in Infrastructure and Integration,” said, “I don’t want my story to be the exception,” while making case for improved socio-economic status in Africa.

To this effect, he said economic success must be shared to ensure prosperity for all through the creation of a more equal, stable, peaceful continent, adding that “nothing is more important.”

“We must build an Africa that will unlock opportunities with prosperity for all. An Africa that all Africans can be happy to call home,” Adesina said.
