Tottenham Hotspur striker Emmanuel Adebayor has dismissed speculation linking him with a move to Premier League leaders Chelsea as a replacement for Didier Drogba.

Reports last month suggested Jose Mourinho was lining up the Togo international as a surprise signing in the summer transfer window, with Drogba set to be released at the end of the campaign.

Adebayor, formerly of Arsenal, Manchester City and Real Madrid, has fallen out of favour at Tottenham under Mauricio Pochettino and has played just once since January but the 30-year-old is keen to fight for his place in North London.

“Contrary to reports, I am very happy at Tottenham and will do everything to fight for my place,” Adebayor wrote on Twitter. “I have a year to go on my contract and love playing in the EPL, best league in world!”

Despite starting the season as first choice under Pochettino, Adebayor has fallen behind top scorer Harry Kane in the pecking order at Tottenham scoring just two goals in all competitions.

Adebayor’s form has wavered since moving to Spurs on loan for the 2011/12 season where he netted 18 times, but upon his permanent switch from City his form has subsided with 24 goals coming in the following two-and-a-half years.
