Yola – The All Progressives Congress (APC) in Adamawa State has won the chairmanship post in 18 of the 21 local government councils in the poll conducted on Saturday in the state.

However, the announcement of the results of the election in Numan, Michika and Lamurde local government areas was postponed to August 6, 2016, due to cases of election malpractices.

The successful chairmen were on Monday sworn in at the Banquet Hall of Government House, Yola, by Engr. Martins Babale, Deputy Governor of Adamawa State.

The event came barely one hour after they collected their certificates of return from Alhaji Isa Shetima, chairman of the Adamawa State Independent Electoral Commission.

In his speech at the inauguration of the chairmen, Alhaji Abdulrahaman Abba, the Chief of Staff to Governor Muhammadu Jibrilla Bindow, who represented the governor, urged the chairmen not to use their positions to acquire wealth but to work for their people as Bindow has been doing.

“I want to state here that those of you who think they will acquire wealth should have a rethink,” he said.

The Deputy Governor commended them for their success and expressed his desire to see them succeed.

The election took place Saturday, with some irregularities such as late commencement of voting.

In some places there was shortage of voting materials.

A number of opposition parties have cried out over the outcome, alleging manipulation of the election, which saw the ruling APC grabbing all the seats so far.
