Benin – The Peoples Democratic Party’s (PDP) governorship running mate and former council chairman for Esan North East Local Government Area, Hon John Yakubu on Thursday asked Governor Adams Oshiomhole to tell Edo people what happened to the N1 billion meant for the reconstruction of Pilgrim Baptist High School, Ewohimi in Esan South East Local Government Area of the state.

The school was one of the three secondary schools upgraded to model schools by the state government three years ago.

Yakubu alleged that it was common knowledge that the money rather than being spent for the project it was earmarked for ended up in the private pockets of a contractor.

He made the allegation during the campaign rally of the PDP at Ewohinmi, which brought together supporters from Ewatto and Ohordua communities where he said the trend was embarrassing for a governor who delights in accusing others of stealing public funds.

According to him, “What I am saying is that the school contract was awarded for one billion naira but if you go to the school you will find that the work done is not up to 20 percent of the total amount.

“As soon as PDP government takes over in November, we will investigate the contractor and retrieve the money from him so that it can be better utilised for the rebuilding of the Pilgrims Baptist High School, Ewohinmi, which has been abandoned”, he said.

Yakubu assured party supporters and residents who thronged the campaign venue that a PDP government with Pastor Ize-Iyamu at the helm of affairs will fulfill all its campaign promises unlike the APC government led by Governor Oshiomhole.

Yakubu whose wife is a native of the town speaking in the local dialect, Esan, promised to be a better son in-law when compared with Governor Oshiomhole whose late wife, Clara hailed from Ewohinmi.

Also speaking at the campaign rally, the PDP governorship candidate said his government would provide all the schools in the state with science laboratories, boarding facilities as well as sport centres.

“Schools are not about red roofs alone, what is important is that the schools should have teachers, science laboratories, boarding houses and sporting facilities and in addition students in higher institutions will get bursaries and scholarships”.
