Benin – The Edo State chapter of the Accord Party (AP) has called on Godwin Nogheghase Obaseki, the All Progressives Congress (APC) candidate in the September 10 governorship election in the state to clear himself of accusations bothering on fraudulent practices, before embarking on campaign.

In a statement signed by Dr. Samson Isibor, the party’s National Secretary and made available to Independent in Benin on Friday, the party said that it was shocked about the news that “Mr. Godwin Obaseki, the economic expert and chairman of the economic team of the Comrade Governor, is deeply involved in a fraudulent deal of N5.5billion as alleged by Hon. Loveth Ederin Idisi (a member of the House of Representatives). This is a serious embarrassment to the people of Edo State.”

Going further, the party said: “Accord Party therefore call on the governorship candidate of APC, Mr. Godwin Obaseki, to first of all clear himself of this criminal offence before embarking on any campaign as this fraud allegation is too weighty.

“Edo people can never make the mistake of voting for a suspected fraudster who will misappropriate our meagre resources. Edo people have suffered enough in the past.

“We need a transparent, incorruptible and God fearing candidate. Edo people cannot be stampeded to vote for Obaseki, we are more wiser now,” it concluded.
