Senator Theodore Orji (PDP), Abia Central has said that the upper legislative Chamber will not disappoint Nigerians, predicting that the 8th Assembly will be remembered and appreciated by the electorate at the end of their tenure.

Speaking with newsmen shortly after the proclamation of the NASS on Tuesday, Senator Orji, who was the immediate past governor of Abia State said that the way and manner the senators went about the election of the Principal Officers shows that they are determined to put party politics behind and work in the overall interest of the nation.

According to him the senators looked beyond self in order to arrive at what is now the leadership, adding that it took a lot of maturity and statesmanship to agree to such consensus. He said that it is the national interest that informed what transpired during the voting that produced Senators Bukola Saraki and Ike Ekweremadu as President and Deputy President of the Senate respectively.

He said that having overcome the problem of selecting the principal officers, the lawmakers would now sit down to begin the duties for which the electorates trooped out in their hordes to vote for them in the NASS poll on March 28, saying that they had no intention of adding to the problem of the nation, but to proffer solutions to make her grow economically.

Senator Orji explained that the major areas that he and the senators would channel efforts would be in security, agriculture and health, saying that these key areas, if properly handled would act as the catalyst for the other sectors to take off effectively and usher in the desired goals of development.

He said the security challenges occasioned by the Boko Haram terrorists will be given priority, adding that once the insurgency is effectively curtailed, Nigeria will commence her ride to economic prosperity.

Senator Orji, who collaborated with security agencies to overcome two years of insecurity occasioned by kidnapping and violent armed robbery in Abia State, said that the activities of the Boko Haram terrorists can be effectively if all hands were put on the deck.

He further disclosed that taking democracy dividends to their different constituencies was as important because it would form the basis upon which the electorates would appreciate the job that was been done at the centre, adding that before aspiring to go to the Senate he had prepared himself for the onerous task of a Senator and that he does not intend to fail in the assignment.
