Abia State Governor, Dr Okezie Ikpeazu, on Wednesday, July 8, 2015, advised corporate outfits, individuals and communities to jettison the idea of giving him awards and titles.

The governor disclosed this in a statement from the Chief Press Secretary, Mr. Godwin Adindu.

The governor therefore counseled those contemplating to honour him with awards to hold their peace.

Contributing, the chief press secretary confirmed that he

has received many letters and proposals from groups, organisations and communities expressing intention to honour the governor with one award, chieftaincy title or the other. He pointed out that the governor was not disposed to such accolades for now.

Adindu however noted that while he appreciates the kindness, goodwill and genuine intention of such groups, he would also like to inform the public that such accolades should be a testimony and a celebration of work and performance.

He advised such people to wait for the work to be completed before rolling out drums.

He further declared that Ikpeazu was determined to chart a new path for Abia State and “this would involve jettisoning certain practices and ceremonies that had constituted huge distraction to governance in the past.”

He therefore called on the people of the state to discern the signs of times, stressing that things have changed.
