Ashoka Anglophone West Africa, a global network of the world’s leading social entrepreneurs will be training a good number of Nigerian youths on how to maximize their acquired skill in Lagos, Nigeria.
Ashoka Learning Journey which will start at Bluespring hotel, Ikeja GRA, Lagos on Wednesday, October 5, and end on October 6, 2016 will take the participants to strategic places where they will interact with well respected entrepreneurs on their specialized fields.
According to The Regional Director, Ashoka Anglophone West Africa, Josephine Nzerem, the economy is biting hard in the country, the youths and women seemed to be the most affected and it is not abnormal to see some of them taking to crime to survive. “But there is a better way, not only to cope but to succeed in attaining financial freedom and help others succeed as well.”
She stated that the objective is to make Lagos youths learn to be social entrepreneurs through their natural and acquired skills.
“This is important as it has been observed that young people in sub-Saharan Africa are struggling to translate their skills into productive and meaningful employment. This region, and
Nigeria especially, has great potential for innovation and economic development spearheaded by young African men and women—the most educated generation ever. Not only will they find lasting jobs, they will also create them. ASHOKA offers the guide, directions and training towards this goal.” She said
To achieve this, ASHOKA Fellows, in Nigeria are organizing this unique two-day journey to experience their systems-changing solutions for themselves, first-hand. On the first day of this journey they will take Nigerians to explore some of the problems and barriers the children and youth of Lagos face. And on the second day they will also lead participants to discover the innovative solutions many social entrepreneurs have created to tackle these issues.
As part of the Ashoka Africa Learning Journey, which holds particularly on Wednesday 5th and Thursday, the 6th of October 2016,  participants will Journey to Ogba to meet Dr Princess Olufemi, an Ashoka fellow and founder of MEDIACON, on Wednesday.  The following day, Thursday, October 6th, is tagged the “Solution Day.” This involved another JOURNEY to OGBA again, to explore a Crisis Centre.
Ashoka is a global network of the world’s leading social entrepreneurs. This network brings together leading social entrepreneurs in Nigeria like Gbenga Sesan, Priscilla Achakpa, Cosmas Okoli and from all over the world as well. From Nobel Peace Prize winner Muhammad Yunus to inventors like Wikipedia founder Jimmy Wales.
This Non-Governmental Organization (NGO) has elected and supported over 3,000 of the world’s most revolutionary social innovators as “Ashoka Fellows” since 1980.   These FELLOWS believe that tomorrow’s best solutions are already here today. Ashoka group believes that there is no time than now to bring this initiative to the streets, to the doorsteps of youths and women in Lagos.
