Rector of Yaba College of Technology, Dr. Mrs Margaret kudirat Ladipo has charged Team Nigeria to emulate the performance of the D’Tigers by coming tops at the Games which gets underway in Congo Brazzaville this weekend.

Ladipo believes the recent feat of D’Tigers at the FIBA African Championship in Tunisia where they defeated Angola in the final will spur the Nigeria’s contingent to greatness at the Games.

The renowned educationist and sports philanthropist said, this is the right time for the country to reclaim her sporting prowess. She commended the federal government for timely release of fund to the contingent. Ladipo appeal to the Nigeria Olympic Committee (NOC) and the National Sports Commission (NSC) to provide enabling environment and welfare packages for the athletes during the Games.

‘’Preparation for the Games has been one of the best in recent times because we’ve never had this type of preparations to major international event. The athletes should emulate the basketballers whose determination and persistence help to win the FIBA African title for the first time in the history of Nigeria.’’ Our contingent should be free from Drugs, camp allowance fiasco and indiscipline which can affect their mission. We need total concentration to enable us achieve overall best just like we did at COJA 2003 in Abuja.”

Ladipo wants the federal government to use sports as a way of creating jobs for the unemployed youths in the country. To her, investing in Nigeria youth through sports will generate more revenue for the country.

‘’We must provide sports facilities in all the774 local government area in Nigeria where youths can flex their muscles in a positive and developmental ways.
