5000 Ultra-Modern Regional Market Stalls Berth In Eket

As part of the determination to create wealth and employment through sustainable economic development and industrialisation, the Akwa Ibom State government has flagged off An Ultra – Modern Regional Market in Eket LGA of the state.

The people of Eket Senatorial District are the first beneficiaries of the regional market project which, according to the state government, would also be established in Uyo and Ikot Ekpene Senatorial Districts.

?Flagging off the regional market, the Akwa Ibom State Governor, Mr. Udom Emmanuel, reiterated his administration’s determination to create wealth through sustainable economic ventures.

Emmanuel said the time had come for all to partner the government with innovative ideas that would lift the country from the current economic doldrums, rather than distract the focus of the administration by fostering ethnic bigotry.

He assured the women of availability of funds through a Micro Credit Scheme to enable them access funds, secure the market stalls as well as grow their businesses. He used the occasion to express appreciation to the people for returning the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in the just concluded House of Assembly re-run election in the state, saying that the victory was a confirmation that Akwa Ibom is a PDD state.

The Commissioner for Investment, Commerce and Industry, Barrister Emmanuel Enoidem, said the market project undertaken under Public Private Partnership Arrangement, has five thousand shops alongside Banks and Sewage Systems.

He added that the construction which would be carried out using prefabricated concrete technology has the capacity of employing at least five hundred youths at the construction stage and would be completed within fifteen months and solicited cooperation from the community to ensure a hitch-free operations.

The representative of the Construction firm, CICASA, Rt. Major General Lawrence Jekotola, said the project which is the first of its kind in the country would contribute to the capacity building of youths, and that every facility that would be assembled would of world class standard.

The House of Assembly representative for the area, Mr David Lawrence; political leader, Chief Ndueso Essien, and Chairman of Eket Local Government Council, Mr Francis Archibong, in their goodwill messages expressed appreciation to the governor for the vision of establishing the market. He said the community has been provided with a state of the art market that befits the cosmopolitan area which has played host to many foreign nationals and people from all parts of the country.
