The confusion in the leadership of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) took a different turn on Wednesday as a Federal High Court in Abuja re-affirmed the sack of Senator Ali Modu Sheriff as National Chairman of the party.
In the ruling, Justice Nwamaka Ogbonnaya reaffirmed Sheriff’s sack, based on the order some weeks ago by Justice Valentine Ashi nullifying his appointment on June 29, 2016. The court said the order had not been set aside or vacated and was, therefore, subsisting.
The court further held that all actions taken by Sheriff as chairman were null, void and of no effect.
Justice Ogbonnaya also ruled that Sheriff should stop taking any action or convening any meeting in the name of the PDP, until the earlier judgment by Ashi is set aside or vacated.
On Wednesday, the Ahmed Makarfi-led faction of the party was barred from the Port Harcourt venue of it scheduled national convention on the grounds that a court had ordered the stoppage of the event, contrary to an earlier court order that allowed the convention to hold.
Sheriff had also got a court injunction restating him as chairman of the party.
The senator himself only recently warned that the judiciary would plunge Nigeria into chaos with the conflicting court judgments on issues of national importance.
