Lagos – Chierika Ukogu semi-final rowing sevent was called off on Wednesday due to high winds.
The semi-final event will hold on Thursday, competing for a place in the final.
The postponement on Wednesday was the second time rowing would be postponed due to high winds.
BBC sport reports that Britain’s Heather Stanning and Helen Glover were also set to compete in the women’s pair semi-final.
However, following an initial decision to delay the morning session on Wednesday, all races were called off, just as the organisers and team managers met to discuss a revised schedule for today (Thursday).
Meanwhile, Senator Ben Bruce has got a backlash from some Nigerians on the social media for tweeting to get Ukogu’s phone number to enable him call and further encourage her to do better.
They vexed that the Senator should have expressed his concern at the preliminary stage of the competition, “Where was Senator Bruce when the girl was struggling at the preliminary stage.”
Senator Bruce was one of the many Nigerians who congratulated Ukogu who made history by being the first Nigerian to not only participate in a rowing event but make it to the Semi-finals in a rowing event.
