The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) on Wednesday appealed to Edo voters to use their votes wisely by casting their votes for its gubernatorial candidate, Pastor Osagie Ize-Iyamu, who it said is on a mission to rescue the state from the shackles of APC misrule.

The running mate to the party’s governorship candidate, John Yakubu, made the remark at a campaign rally in Okada, the administrative headquarters of Ovia North-East Local Government Area.

According to Yakubu, “We are in a rescue mission in Edo State. We are to rescue pensioners that have not been paid pension entitlements, local governments workers will smile in our government.

“The executives of the 18 local government councils in the state cannot fulfill their constitutional obligation of paying monthly salaries to their staff due to the deduction of more than half of their monthly allocation from the federation account by the state government”, he alleged.

He assured that local governments’ allocation would no longer be deducted under PDP administration, adding that by the time the party wins the governorship election in the state the councils would be given free hand to perform their constitutional obligations to their workers.

“Today councils can no longer pay monthly salaries not because they don’t have money but because the money has been stolen by the state government. When we come on board by November 12, 2016 by the grace of God those monies will be released to the councils and they will again begin to pay their salary regularly”, he added.

In his speech, the party candidate, Osagie Ize-Iyamu, said he has a clear vision to develop and take the state to greater heights.

Ize-Iyamu said his plans to develop the state was contained in his manifesto called ‘Simple Agenda’, assuring that if elected all the existing industries that have been moribund in the past eight years under Adams Oshiomhole-led government would be revived.

Earlier, the state chairman of PDP, Dan Orbih, brandished vouchers of the alleged expenses of the state government in water fountain and other water related activities in the past eight years in the state.

Minority leader in the House of Representatives, Hon. Leo Ogor, who led PDP members in the House to the rally, said the cries of the people of Edo State have reached the National Assembly.

He accused the APC-led government of the state of dictatorial attitude among other anti-democratic tendencies.

He, however, sympathised with pensioners who are being owed severally months of pension arrears, describing it as man inhumanity to man.

Six members of the House of Representatives including the representatives of Ovia federal constituency, Omosede Igbinedion, graced the rally.
