Benin – Dr. Don Pedro Obaseki, former governorship aspirant of the All Progressives Congress (APC) for the September 10, 2016 election in Edo State, on Thursday spoke on his ill-fated governorship journey in the state, disclosing that he obtained the blessing and endorsement of the Obaseki family of Benin, including that of Mr. Godwin Obaseki, the APC governorship candidate, before he decided to contest the governorship primaries under the banner of the party.

Pedro Obaseki stated this at a rally held by the PDP governorship candidate at Oredo East Constituency, Lagos Road, Benin-City, while reacting to the statement by Chief Osayuki Obaseki that no member of the Obaseki family would vote for Pastor Osagie Ize-Iyamu, the PDP governorship candidate.

According to him, “When I decided to run for the governorship race under the APC, I told my family and my elder brother, Godwin Obaseki. They endorsed and blessed me. I am too young to contradict what Chief Oyuki Obaseki said in the public. He is not the head of the Obaseki family and from the very beginning, he has always been a supporter of Godwin Obaseki.

“Everybody has his constitutional right to belong to any political party of his choice and when I spoke at Egor yesterday (Wednesday), the younger brother of Jackson Gaius Obaseki was there, so the Obaseki family is not a political family.

“When I moved away from the APC because the party had perfected plans to rig the governorship primaries and moved to Accord Party, INEC removed my name. The Obaseki family called me seven times that they want to reconcile me with Godwin, I responded, till date I am still waiting for the reconciliation.

“If they denied this, I am going to television houses in Benin to air the video recordings of my endorsement and blessings”, he said.

Don Pedro Obaseki also disclosed that on leaving the APC, Pastor Osagie Ize-Iyamu drove to his house to solicit for his support and presented his ‘Simple Agenda’ of his covenant with Edo people if he wins while his elder brother, Godwin Obaseki did not.

He, therefore, called on Edo people not to vote for the voice of Jacob and the hand of Esau just as he accused Oshiomhole of angling for a tenure elongation through his brother, Godwin Obaseki.
