Mr. Ibrahim Idris, acting Inspector-General of Police (IGP), has declared that Nigeria is not a lawless country and all criminals must be ready to face the full wrath of the law.

Idris said the Nigeria Police was capable of deploying its technical and intelligence capacity and capability to reduce the perceived rise in crime, especially kidnapping, armed robbery, cultism and other forms of violence in the country.

The IGP stated this shortly after the IGP’s Intelligent Response Team arrested a notorious kidnapping gang known to have been terrorizing residents of Rivers State and its environs for a while now.

The gang was apprehended after it abducted a woman and her one-year-old daughter from her Port Harcourt home, demanding N2, 500,000 as ransom for their freedom. Based on intelligence generated by the IRT, the ransom was used as bait.

In the attempt to claim the money at the agreed point, operatives of IRT engaged the kidnappers, rescued the victims and arrested four members of the gang, who gave their names as Herbert Oriminagbe, Chijioke Akah, Kelechi Nwaordu and Nelson Ajumogobia.

In their confessional statements, the gang admitted that they were also responsible for the kidnapping of one Undunobuk and other innocent Nigerians. Going through a laptop computer recovered from them, it was discovered that the real owner Undunobuk was once robbed in his Port Harcourt residence and later kidnapped only to be released on the payment of N1,300,000 as ransom.
