Benin – The All Progressives Congress (APC) and the state governor, Adams Oshiomhole represented the common enemies of Esan people that must be defeated for them to develop, running mate to the Peoples Democratic Party’s (PDP) governorship candidate in Edo State, Mr John Yakubu, informed his Esan people of the Edo Central Senatorial District at the weekend at Uromi.

Yakubu said if the people of the zone were desirous of development, the APC and all that is connected with the party including Governor Oshiomhole and the party’s governorship candidate, Godwin Obaseki, must be avoided like a leprous hand in the September 10 Edo State governorship election.

Yakubu who was speaking at Uromi, headquarters of Esan North East Local Government Area of the state during a PDP’s gubernatorial campaign rally, recalled how Oshiomhole declined to honour a request by the late elder statesman, Chief Anthony Enahoro, shortly before his death, to complete the Uromi Cassavita Factory.

He pointed out that Governor Oshiomhole has uncommon hatred for the Esan people, alleging that the governor frustrated the Ewu/Ibore Erosion Control Scheme and the tarring of Udo and Idijie streets in Uromi amongst other projects.

According to him, as chairman of Esan North East Council, I confronted Oshiomhole when the latter took about N500 million from funds meant for local governments in the state within three months and the governor refused to refund the money even after the then House of Assembly directed him to do so.

“Few months before his death, Chief Anthony Enahoro took me to Oshiomhole and begged Adams to allow the Cassavita factory work. Adams assured him, but many years after, the Cassavita factory has not worked.

“Oshiomhole wrote a letter to the Secretary to Government of the Federation not to give attention to the gully erosion in Ibore and Ewu. I have a copy of the letter written by Adams Oshiomhole dated 24th November 2014, and I will circulate it throughout Edo State,” Yakubu said.

Edo State chairman of the PDP, Dan Orbih, in his speech challenged Governor Oshiomhole to prove to Edo people that the party’s governorship candidate, Pastor Osagie Ize-Iyamu, stole money belonging to the state when he served as Chief of Staff and Secretary to the State Government between 1999 and 2007.

Orbih also accused the governor of handing over the N2 billion Bank of Industry (BoI) loan meant for small and medium scale entrepreneurs to the APC governorship candidate, Godwin Obaseki, adding that the “the money has ended in the pockets of the so-called party leaders and delegates of the APC”.

“If there is any evidence suggesting that our candidate took money from government, Oshiomhole would have published it in the newspapers. I challenge Oshiomhole to come out with any paper he can use to take him to court for his years in government.

“If there is any person in Edo State that you can call thief, it is Adams Oshiomhole. Let him explain the source of his wealth. I challenge him to take journalists on a facility tour of his private residence in Iyamho.

“Let him call for independent estate valuers to give us the true value of the property. We are aware that he has built a swimming pool on top of the house worth billions of naira.”
