The Senate on Wednesday directed Minister of Finance, Mrs. Kemi Adeosun, to appear before the lawmakers on Thursday to brief them on fiscal policies adopted to salvage the nation’s economy.

The directive followed an observation made by the Minority Leader of the Senate, Chief Godswill Akpabio, during plenary on the failure of the minister to honour an invitation to appear at the Senate on Wednesday.

The minister and the upper chamber had agreed for the Wednesday session and it was duly scheduled in the Order Paper as a major matter for the day.

Akpabio said that the minister ought to have considered the fact that she would be attending the Federal Executive Council meeting while fixing the appointment with the Senate.

He expressed concern that in spite of knowing that she would not make it, she did not deem it fit to notify the red chamber.

“She sent the message very late in the day to the Senate.

“I will not take it as disrespect for the hallowed chamber but as an act of omission on her part. I hope this will not repeat itself,” Akpabio said.

In his remarks, the President of the Senate, Dr. Bukola Saraki, directed the minister to appear before the Senate on Thursday unfailingly.

According to him, this is in view of the fact that the National Assembly will be proceeding on recess on Thursday.

“The comments of the minority leader are very pertinent; she picked today.

“We must take her before we go tomorrow because the CBN governor made effort to be here on Tuesday.

“I hope she will make it today or tomorrow because these are issues that are very important to Nigerians. She must be here unfailing tomorrow.”
