No fewer than five farmers were reportedly killed in Kala Community of Hong Local Government Area of Adamawa State on Monday.

Reports from the Local Government Area indicated that the fresh attack occurred when some farmers asked the herdsmen why they were allowing their cows to destroy their crops.

Mr. Solomon Ayuba, one of the community leaders in the area, lamented that the clash would have been averted if the herdsmen had adhered to the instruction to move their cows out of the farm.

Mr. Ayuba told our correspondent in an interview that while some groups were trying to get the way out of the situation, a faction of the herdsmen was busy beating some farmers, resulting in a free for all.

“The incident was so pathetic that before we realised it, the herdsmen brought out their weapons and started shooting randomly, killing five people while dozens of others were injured,” he said.

He added that the remains of those killed during the attack have been buried.

He described the present administration’s directive for people to go back to farming as a way of resuscitating the economy as a mirage, if the activities and behavior of the herdsmen are not checked.

Another report from the area says that as at the time of filling this report many residents of the community are have fled their homes and taken to hiding for fear of the unknown.

The current brazen attack came less than two weeks after a similar catastrophe occurred in Tambo village of Giere Local Government Area of the state where over 20 people were killed by a group of herdsmen.

However, efforts to reach DSP Othman Abubakar of the State Police Command Spokesman, to confirm the incident was not all that successful as he simply said that he was yet to be briefed on the Kala attack.”
