Jos – Concerned Christians have called on the leadership of Christian Association of Nigeria (CAN) to do all it can to resolve the protracted crisis over who succeeds Pastor Ayo Oritserjafor, the immediate past President of CAN.

Addressing news men in Jos on Monday, Rev. Luke Shehu, the leader of the group, said the leadership of CAN should rise up to address the challenges confronting Christians, especially victims of terrorism in northern Nigeria, rather than spending their time  on parochial interests.

He said that the lack of willingness by the CAN leadership to resolve the issue regarding its national election is further dividing CAN and leading to distrust and insecurity as evident in the various interests, actions and publications for and against each of the parties involved in the leadership crisis.

He wondered why  politics of money and other forms of manipulations have been used in CAN elections, saying  they  were against Christian leadership that abuses both the exegetical and contextual principle of the message of ‘grace’ in other to perpetuate or cover up evil under any guise.

Rev. Shehu warned that the leadership of the CAN should not throw caution to the winds if sanity is to be restored to  the national body.

“We plead with the well meaning Christian leaders to prevail on the current CAN leadership and the five blocks in CAN to refrain and desist from the plan to impose leadership on the CAN as it might lead to disunity and breach of peace,” he stated.
