BENIN – The Afenmai Patriotic Development Association (APDA), an Edo socio-political group, on Tuesday charged Godwin Obaseki and Osagie Ize-Iyamu, candidates of the All Progressives Congress (APC) and the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), respectively, in the September 10 Edo gubernatorial election to bring before the people intended programmes and policies that would make life better in the state and focus on issues in their campaigns.

They also commended the governorship primaries of the two major political parties.

In a statement issued in Benin City by Kennedy Izuagbe and Lucky Anyia, coordinator of the group and its interim spokesman, respectively, APDA gave kudos to the election committees constituted by the national headquarters of the APC, headed by Katsina State governor, Aminu Masari, and that of the PDP, led by Governor Dave Umahi of Ebonyi State, for a job well done.

The group said based on the “manner in which the delegates elected their flag-bearers in a free, fair and transparent process, the parties have proven to Nigerians that they are ready to help entrench democracy in Nigeria,” and advised political parties of the need to know that internal democracy is key to the overall success of democracy.

The group said there is need to imbibe the practice of upholding the will of the people by allowing fairness as demonstrated at the APC and PDP gubernatorial primaries.

APDA urged the winners to draw up programmes that would sustain the development agenda of the outgoing government which cuts across the three senatorial zones of the state.
