UPU President General Inaugurates Orogun Kingdom Chapter

Ughelli – THE President General of the Urhobo Progress Union, UPU, Chief Joe Omene, has inaugurated the executive of the Union, Orogun Kingdom Chapter and charged the leadership and members to be committed to Urhobo affair.

The President General who was represented by the First Deputy President General, Evang. Mike Ederewhevbe-kimijebrijesu, in his speech at Ugono-Orogun, Ughelli North Local Government Area of Delta State, stated that the establishment of the Kingdom’s branch of the UPU was in compliance with the UPU constitution and also to strengthen the Union in order to serve the Urhobo nation better.

According to him, “the UPU constitution directs that the 24 kingdoms should have a branch of UPU, though this had never existed but those of us in the leadership of the UPU now want to comply with the constitution as much as possible, and that is why we are establishing the kingdom’s branches. Before today, we have inaugurated UPU kingdom branches at Mosogar, Idjerhe, Agbon, and Oghara, and today is that of Orogun kingdom. We are doing this in order to strengthen and improve on the efficiency of the UPU, in advancing Urhobo course”.

Ederewhevbe-kimijebrijesu, also urged the new executive to respect constituted authority particularly the traditional rulers and that they should not to attempt to assume powers which are not conferred on them but work with other institutions in the kingdom.

Those inaugurated as the UPU Orogun kingdom Chapter where; Chief Agboje Amos, President, Barr. Opone Thompson, Vice President, Mr. Idoghor Patrick, Secretary, Mr. Emenike Jonathan, Assistant Secretary, Chief (Dr.) Achubue Edwin, PRO, Mrs. Omene Theresa, Treasurer.

Others are Barr. Esombi Tobore, Legal Adviser, Mr. Etetakpore Ejovwoke, Financial Secretary, Mr. Eteghene Emmanuel, Welfare, Mr. Omiragua Prosper, Provost, Mr. Clever Ofarko, Youth Representative, Mrs. Udoro Elizabeth, Orogun Rep in national women wing executive, (Eghweya).

In his acceptance speech, Chief Agboje Amos, President of UPU Orogun kingdom, thanked the Okpala-Uku of Orogun kingdom for his support and fatherly blessing, the leadership of UPU led by President General, Chief Omene, for finding them worthy to serve the Urhobo nation, promising that they would double their efforts in projecting and promoting the Urhobo nation’s objectives.

He also commended Justice J. Omo-Agege (rtd), for his contributions to the development of Orogun kingdom over the years, his wife, Chief (Lady) Mary Agboje and the people of Orogun kingdom.
