Doctors Without Border Rejects EU Funds Over Migrant Policy

The medical aid charity, Medecins Sans Frontieres (MSF)  otherwise known  as  Doctors Without Border in English ,says it will no longer take funds from the European Union in protest at its migration policy.

MSF singled out the EU’s deal with Turkey in March to stem the biggest flow of migrants into the continent since World War II.

It says the deal, in which Turkey agreed to take back all migrants, jeopardises the concept of the refugee.

The charity received $63m (£44m) from the EU and its members last year.

In a statement on social media, MSF said none of its patients will be affected by this decision, saying “we will use emergency funds to keep our projects running.”

The group said Europe needed a dramatic shift from pushing people back to policies that aim to protect and assist people.

“This is really about Europe’s refugee shame, ” Jerome Oberreit, MSF International Secretary General, said.

Médecins Sans Frontières or Doctors Without Borders, is an international humanitarian-aid non-governmental organisation (NGO) and Nobel Peace Prize laureate, best known for its projects in war-torn regions and developing countries facing endemic diseases. It was founded in France in response to the Biafran War.

MSF was created in 1971, in the aftermath of the Biafra secession, by a small group of French doctors and journalists who believed that all people have the right to medical care regardless of race, religion, creed or political affiliation, and that the needs of these people outweigh respect for national border
