Temidayo Akinsuyi, Lagos
A former Chairman of the Nigerian Bar Association (NBA) Ikeja branch, Monday Ubani has called on President Muhammadu Buhari to personally reveal the names of looters and the amount recovered so far as earlier promised by the president.

Speaking in a chat with Independent on Monday, Ubani said having listened to the president’s broadcast on Democracy Day, Nigerians were not given specific details as to why the names were not revealed.

He urged the president to fulfill his pledge to Nigerians by revealing the identity of the looters rather than refer the task to the Information Ministry.

“I read the speech of the president on Democracy day. I was one of those who have been saying that President Buhari is going to reveal the names of those looters and the amount of monies recovered. We were not given good reasons why those names were not released yesterday”.

“ I am not ignorant as a lawyer that there are some legal technicalities they need to clear. Some of the monies recovered may not enter into the treasury until some of these legal issues are resolved. But we would have been given explanations why the president did not reveal the names”.

“ I am not happy that the president is now referring this all-important job that most of us expect him to do to the Minister of Information. I would have wanted the president to read out all the names and disclose how much has been recovered so far”.

“ I am still saying now that even though the names have not been released and the amount disclosed, the president has to redeem that pledge that he made that he is going to reveal those names and I want him to do that personally” .

“This fight against corruption is one of the reasons why some of us voted for President Buhari. Now, that we are happy with the level the fight has progressed, we want him to take this important job that has been given to him very importantly” he said.
