Oyebanji Gboyega, one of Nigeria’s professional players after an injury spell has said that he would be featuring in the forthcoming West Africa Golf Tour (WAGT) billed for Abuja.
Gboyega said on Thursday that, “I’m fitter now than before and I’m looking ahead of the WAGT in Abuja,” he told Independent.
The one-time Cameroun Open champion, who has been nursing shoulder injury, said that the time has come for him to return to the course stronger and better.
“It has not been easy staying away from the course for so long; although, I have been playing, it’s been just for me to regain my fitness and skill and not on a serious contest.”
The Abuja/Otukpo-based golfer featured in the maiden edition of the WAGT, but finished 9th and said, “My participation in the maiden edition of WAGT was a big boost for me.”
Gboyega, who was at the just concluded CMCL said, “The WAGT performance, finishing 9th gave me a lot of hopes that I have recovered tremendously; I was also at CMCL tournament in Akure, but I missed the cut.”
“I’m training very hard at the moment so that I can deliver good performance and not be in the tourney to complete the number.”
