Expectedly, the League Management Company (LMC) on Friday expelled Jos based football club, Giwa FC, from the 2015/16 Nigeria Professional Football League (NPFL).
The expulsion is premised on “breach of NPFL Framework & Rules for failing to honour three cumulative fixtures without acceptable reason.”
The decision was published by the league body on its official twitter handle on Friday, May 20. And it also offered the club the right to appeal or accept this decision within 48 hours, as the framework stipulates.
The LMC has notified all club chairmen of its decision to expel Giwa FC from the league.
Consequently, all matches involving Giwa FC, played or un-played, have been suspended by the LMC, without prejudice to the final result.
The LMC has also said that all clubs that have played Giwa FC to date will be fairly compensated in proportional basis, promising to review the matter of registered players currently contracted to Giwa FC.
As part of the penalties, Giwa FC will forfeit all monetary earnings due to it this season from the LMC.
The three fixtures the club failed to honour, according to the LMC, were Week 14 against Wikki Tourists, Week 16 tie against Akwa United and Week 18 match against Enyimba; all matches were expected to be played in Ilorin.
For failing to honour the tie against Enyimba, Giwa was fined N10 million. The club will also pay another fine of N250, 000 as cost of hiring the stadium, security and other logistics incurred for the match by the LMC.
