250 Farmers Get Storage Bags In Minna

The Federal Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development has distributed 1, 000 safe storage bags for the storage of grains to 250 farmers in Minna municipal, Bosso Local Government council of the state.

Niger State Director in-charge of the distribution, Mr. Salihu Bello who disclosed this on Wednesday, said that beneficiaries of the sacks were drawn from the 25 local government councils in the state.

The N150, 000 worth of bags, according to Salihu were part of Federal Government’s Growth Enhancement Support Scheme (GES) to active farmers who had not benefited from such gesture in Niger state.

He said each of the 250 registered farmers in the area would get four bags, adding that they were selected from; Sabon- Doga, Kona Garatu and Wachiko farms all in Bosso council area of the state.

The State Director said the programme under the Federal Government’s Agricultural Transformation Agenda (ATA) had other farm inputs such as; insecticides including the hermetic bags given to the farmers.

He said the programme which was flagged off on the 30th of October, 2014 had ten male and ten female farmers selected from each of the 25 local government councils in the state.

“The selection was done in collaboration with the state All Framers Association of Nigeria (AFAN).

“Each farmer in addition to the hermitic bags received one litre of insecticide,” he said.  Also speaking, Mrs. Larai Mai-Karfi, Director of Agriculture, Bosso local government commended the federal government for the gesture which according to her would go a long way in encouraging farmers for improved yield.

Mai-Karfi said her office would ensure that the benefiting farmers utilised the bags and insecticides for the purpose for which they were meant, towards improved food production for local and export to other parts of the country.
