Former Minister of Transport, Chief Ebenezer Babatope on Sunday dispelled rumours that the National Chairman of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Ali Modu Sheriff is making subtle move to become the party’s presidential candidate in the 2019 general elections.

Speaking in a chat with Independent, Babatope a member of the party’s Board of Trustees also said contrary to claims, the BoT has not been sidelined in the current arrangement in the party especially b members of the National Working Committee (NWC), which is dominated by governors elected on the party’s platform.

There is a belief within the party that Sheriff and Ekiti State Governor, Ayodele Fayose, are planning to jointly run for the presidency in 2019, a move that has been opposed by some party members who are opposed to Sheriff’s emergence as chairman.

According to Babatope “Ali Modu Sheriff’s ambition does not interest me at all. The reason being that 2019 is still far from now. It is in the hands of God. If he feels that he can be presidential candidate and national chairman at the same time, goodluck to him. What I know is that the PDP will not go under. The PDP will not be destroyed by the antics of any person”.

“Ali Modu Sheriff is a very reasonable person. He won’t subject himself to such ridicule and dirty nonsense. I don’t believe the story but I believe that if he wants to do it, he will be caught by time”.

“The BoT cannot be sidelined. The BoT will meet whenever it wants to meet. Our role is purely advisory.if those who think they have the power now, the National Working Committee members, I wish them the best of luck. Let them go ahead but I know that time will catch up with everybody” he said.
